Norman Lamb criticises Ken Livingstone for "psychiatric help" attack

November 18, 2015 3:28 PM

Norman LambLiberal Democrat Health spokesman Norman Lamb has dealt a stinging rebuke to Labour's Ken Livingstone for suggesting a shadow defence minister who criticised him needed "psychiatric help".

Former Minister for Care and Support Norman Lamb MP, who has long championed better mental health services and support, said:

"It is deeply disappointing that Ken Livingstone has made such ignorant comments. For a public figure to make remarks like these is not only disrespectful to Mr Jones, but to every individual who has been affected by mental ill health.

"Remarks like this set back progress in tackling the stigma around mental health which can prevent people from accessing support when they need it."
