The Liberal Democrats first post-election volunteer event has been described as a runaway success.

On Wednesday 120 volunteers visited the party's London HQ for the first event since polling day.

The event provided new members and volunteers with the opportunity to socialise with other Liberal Democrats as well as to find out more about what volunteering with the party involves and rounded off with some phone calling.

More than 90 per cent of the people who attended the event were new volunteers, showing that the Liberal Democrat fightback is well and truly on.

Jonny Steen, the Liberal Democrat Head of Volunteers said:

"Our first induction session was a runaway success.

"We give people the info they need, from a wide variety of speakers, and the chance to feel comfortable in the office and to talk with each other.

"That's exactly what they can expect at the next events."
